PeakSmart: Stay Cool, Save Energy, and Keep the Power Flowing!
Share
Ever wondered how your aircon can help keep the power grid running smoothly? That’s where PeakSmart comes in! It’s a clever technology that slightly adjusts your aircon’s energy use during peak times, without you even noticing. No fuss, no effort, just a smarter way to stay cool while helping reduce the risk of blackouts. Plus, there’s even a cashback reward! Let’s break it down.
What is PeakSmart?
Energex runs programs like PeakSmart to help keep the power grid running smoothly when everyone’s cranking up their aircon on hot days. PeakSmart is a smart technology that slightly adjusts your aircon’s cooling during peak times, such as those summer afternoons, so the grid doesn’t get overloaded. The best part? It all happens automatically, and you probably won’t even notice a difference!
How It Works:
- PeakSmart air conditioners come equipped with Demand Response Enabling Devices (DREDs), which allow Energex to send signals to the unit to temporarily adjust its energy consumption.
- These adjustments only occur during high-demand periods and are automatic and seamless.
- PeakSmart technology ensures that electricity supply remains reliable for all consumers while minimizing power disruptions.
- Built-in smart tech – PeakSmart aircons come with a Demand Response Enabling Device (DRED) that lets Energex send signals to adjust energy use.
- Only during peak times – It occurs when the electricity grid is under heavy demand, like super hot days.
- Fully automatic – No buttons to press or settings to change—it works in the background.
-
Keeps power stable – Helps reduce pressure on the grid and lowers the risk of power disruptions for everyone.
What Does PeakSmart Control?
PeakSmart mainly works with your aircon’s compressor—the part that cools your home. During peak times, it may slightly adjust how hard your aircon works to help reduce overall electricity use.
PeakSmart has three levels of control, depending on how much the grid needs to ease electricity demand:
1. Low Impact (Level 1) – A tiny adjustment to your aircon’s cooling. You probably won’t even notice!
2. Moderate Impact (Level 2) – A small reduction in cooling power, but your home will still stay comfortable.
3. High Impact (Level 3) – A bigger adjustment during extreme demand times (like a heatwave). Your aircon will still run, just not at full blast.
No matter the level, PeakSmart does not turn off your air conditioner. Instead, it adjusts the compressor’s power usage when necessary. This means:
- Your air conditioner continues to run, keeping your home cool and comfortable.
- The adjustments are temporary and only occur during peak demand periods.
- Most users won’t even notice a difference in their cooling performance.
